Saint
Michael's Offers Free Monthly Support Group NEWARK, N. J. –– Saint Michael’s Medical Center’s Diabetes Management Center is offering free, monthly support groups for people living with diabetes. The group, which meets at the Diabetes Management Center on the third Friday of each month from noon to 1 p.m., offers emotional and social support for diabetes patients and their friends and families. The support group meetings are free and open to the public, and lunch is provided. “The diabetes support group is an open, interactive forum for people with questions about diabetes issues,” said Patrice Paolella, MPH, RD, CDE, director of the Diabetes Management Center. “It is also a place where people can share stories about their experiences with diabetes, and connect with others who are living with the disease.” Saint Michael’s Medical Center is located at 111 Central Avenue in Newark. The support group meets at the Diabetes Management Center, which is located on the sixth floor of the hospital’s B building. No registration is necessary to attend. More information is available by calling the Center, at (973) 877-2885. “Many people living with diabetes are unaware of the many educational resources and treatment options available,” said Paolella. “At the Diabetes Management Center at Saint Michael’s Medical Center, we’re committed to helping our patients learn to manage their diabetes symptoms and to lead healthy and productive lives.” Established by the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor
in 1867, Saint Michael’s Medical Center is a 357-bed regional tertiary-care,
teaching and research center in the heart of Newark’s business and
educational district. The Saint James Campus in Newark’s East Ward
and the Columbus Campus in the North Ward deliver key non-acute services,
including 24-hour emergency care. They serve as a “front door”
to the inpatient, outpatient, and clinic services available at Saint Michael’s
Medical Center. Saint Michael’s Medical Center is a member of Catholic
Health East (CHE). Based in Newtown Square, PA, Catholic Health East is
one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health systems, with 33 hospitals
in 11 states. More information is available at www.che.org
