Saint
Michael's Medical Center Offers Interactive Dance and Healing Workshop
NEWARK, N.J. (September
17, 2007) –– Saint Michael’s Medical Center and
Cathedral Regional Cancer Center, in affiliation with Friends’ Health
Connection, will offer a therapeutic workshop for cancer patients on Thursday,
October 4, 2007, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Conducted by dance therapist and
educator Susan G. Pope, Interactive Dance and Healing will take place
at the Cathedral Regional Cancer Center at 111 Central Avenue.
Pope, who holds a B.A. in dance from the University
of Maryland and an M.A in dance education from Teacher’s College
at Columbia University, teaches dance at Dr. E. Alma Flagg School in Newark.
Previously, she taught dance for the New York Public Schools. In May 2000,
Pope was invited to the White House to speak at a conference titled Raising
Responsible and Resourceful Youth. She is a member of the National Liturgical
Dance Ministry Network and the National Dance Association, and she leads
workshops in liturgical dance and dance education.
“Effective cancer care encompasses more than just
top-quality medical treatment — it also includes activities that
promote spiritual and emotional well-being,” said Lois Greene, administrative
director of the Cathedral Regional Cancer Center. “We are delighted
to host Ms. Pope and offer this fun, innovative workshop to patients affected
by cancer.”
