Dr. Catherine Polera Named VP, Medical Affairs/Chief Medical Officer

Saint Michael’s Medical Center has announced the appointment of Catherine B. Polera, D.O., MPH, FACEP, FACOEP, CPE to the position of Vice President, Medical Affairs/Chief Medical Officer.

At Saint Michael’s, Dr. Polera will serve as the senior physician executive, working closely with the medical staff, the executive leadership, and the Board of Directors in overseeing the hospital’s delivery of world-class medical care. She will lead initiatives to improve quality and safety, to increase patient satisfaction, and to enhance the medical center’s longstanding reputation as a regional health-care leader.

Dr. Polera previously spent more than eight years at Medexcel USA, Inc., a New Windsor, New York-based emergency medicine contract group, most recently in the capacity of Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Professional Services. She was responsible for more than 100 physicians and allied health professionals, and served as a change agent in such areas as operations, customer service, medical education, and CORE measures. She has served in numerous chairing roles at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, New York, including her present post as Chair of Emergency Services.

Dr. Polera has also had appointments in the emergency departments in New York and New Jersey. She is board-certified in emergency medicine and internal medicine, and completed her dual residency in these disciplines at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, NY. She holds a D.O. medical degree from Kansas City College of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri, and a Masters of Public Health (M.P.H.) from St. Louis University School of Public Health in St. Louis, Missouri. She earned her undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Polera recently completed executive courses and earned a CPE (Certified Physician Executive) accreditation.
